So are the vikings if you can hire them.īerserkers are good at killing when flanking an enemy, but not in head on combat due to their lack of armour.įrankish Horsemen are good cavalry if you don't have the time, patience or ability to train up cavalry. Svear warriors and veterans are cost effective and great at holding a line. Mercenaries are great, if you know who to get. The franks have a shorter upgrade tree but troops take longer to train. They also have spear infantry that wield longer spears IIRC. The picts have crossbow infantry, the only one in the game, so there's that. Their spear and sword troops are okay, with their higher level sword trops doing a pretty good job.
The angles and saxons have similar troops, with their lower level troops using slings, so not so deadly.
Their skirmishers can be quite deadly en masse even at the lower tiers. The Irish go heavy on skirmishers, and their top level cavalry is quite heavily armoured. Their archers have a shield and axe at higher levels with armour so that's great too.
